Okay, since the topic that I had "changed" to a book discussion but was locked, I thought that we could have it here, not locked hopefully, and if ace starts a flame war on this topic he be penalized. Now that that's over, shout out those books! I need some good suggestions for summer vacation!

Here's one that I suggest: The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

Second both of these series. I'd also recommend the following:

-Hyperion Cantos (Dan Simmons)
-Select bits of the Star Wars EU (mostly, the X-Wing series and anything by Zahn)
-Neal Stephenson's works (such as Cryptonomicon, Snow Crash, Anathem)
-Discworld series (Terry Pratchett)

Doh!!! (with a big headslap) how could I have forgotten Star Wars books in a Star Wars site.
+1 Sir especially the Wraith Squadron X-Wing books. There's supposed to be a new one coming out in August. Personally I feel Star Wars novels start on a down hill decline after Survivors Quest (chronologically speaking) but I'm cautiously excited about what Aaron Alliston will do reviving his old series.

Thanks for the suggestions! I started reading "The Children of Hurin" by the imfamous author, the beloved J.R.R Tolkien. This book is amazing folks. I completely recommend this to learn new vocabulary, and its got a great storyline!
Here's a bit of it:

And Morgoth, the Black Enemy, as he came to be called, was in his origin, as he declared to Hurinbrought captive before him, "Melkor, first and mightiest of the Valar, who was before the world." Now become permanently incarnate, in form a gigantic and majestic, but terrible, Kingin the north-west of Middle-Earth, he was physically present in his huge fortress of Angband, the Hells of Iron: the black reek that issued from the summits of Thangorodrim, the mountains that he piled above Angband, could be seen far off, staining the northern sky.

Also,:

Feanor was the greatest of the Eldar in arts and lore, but also the proudest and most self-willed. He wrought the Three Jewels, the Silmarilli, and filled them with the radiance of the Two Trees, Telpherion and Laurelin, that gave lightto the land of the Valar. The Jewels were coveted by Morgoth the Enemy, who stole them and, after destroying the Trees, took them to his great fortress and guarded them in the mountains of Thangorodrim where Angband was.

Cheers! :)

I've actually posted this a few months back on the other "Book to read" site. Ann Rice. The author of the book made into a movie; "Interview with a vampire". She's written a few books about "Lestat", he's the vampire played by Tom Cruise in the movie. One of the best one that I read by her was "Memnoch the Devil"...this book is about the Devil trying to "intice" Lestat to join him in Hell. The Devil (an interdimensional being)...takes Lestat to Hell and to Heaven. The Devil also takes Lestat back in time...to the day that Jesus was being crucified....Lestat saw Jesus all bloodied during "The Passion", as Jesus is being paraded through the streets. You have to read this book...it made me contemplate my faith...until I came to grips and realized this is a fiction book...that's how good this book was. I recommend it. http://www.annerice.com/Bookshelf-Memnoch.html

The Vampire Chronicles
Memnoch the Devil

In the fifth Vampire Chronicle, Lestat is searching for Dora, the beautiful and charismatic mortal daughter of a drug lord. Dora has moved Lestat like no other mortal ever has, and he cannot get her out of his visions. At the same time, he is increasingly aware that the Devil knows who he is and wants something from him. While torn betwen his vampire world and his passion for Dora, Lestat is sucked in by Memnoch, who claims to be the Devil himself. Memnoch presents Lestat with unimagined opportunities: to witness creation, to visit purgatory, to be treated like a prophet. Lestat faces a choice between the Devil or God. Whom does he believe in? Who does he serve? What are the element of religious belief? Lestat finds himself caught in a whirlpool of the ultimate choice

From Anne: "As of August, 2000, I can tell you sincerely that Memnoch the Devil is my favorite of the Vampire Chronicles. Have any of you connected Veronica's Veil to Lestat's unusual assault on Dora after his freedom from Memnoch? I am speaking of the folklore of the veil. I am speaking of a blood connection. Of course, Lestat's blood lust is also connected to the blood of Christ in this novel. Much as I love all my books, this is--I repeat--my favorite of the Chronicles."
